Biography

David Rhoderick was born in Mass General Hospital in Boston. He lived in Westford, Massachusetts for seven years before moving to Winchester, England. Three years later, he returned to America and resided in Ridgefield, Connecticut for high school until he started studying at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. He is currently studying Electronic Arts, a media arts program, there and is looking forward to continuing his education and obtaining a Masters, and perhaps, PhD.

As an artist, he has completed peices in his studies that will be omitted from this website but his thesis work can be found in the Current Projects page. He believes in chaos and order in a balance and has an affinity to create systems based on the human body in either conscious or subconscious ways. Primarily working in sound, he is slowly integrating a visual vocabulary into his work, which can be seen in some of the videos on the Media page and in his thesis work. The direction of his work is that he wants to encompasses people. He believes that it is important for art and music to transport people much in the way that drugs do.

As a musician, he has been producing his own music since high school. He was part of a group formerly known as Seeking Asylum and now known as Vinyl Night. The group initially consisted of Chris Magni on drums, John Mahlstedt on bass, Mike Schmidt on rhythm guitar and lead vocals, and David on lead vocals and lead guitar. As the primary writer, producer, and recording engineer, he wrote and recorded dozens of songs with the full line-up which were lost when the band dropped Chris Magni. John, Mike, and Dave released their first album, Melany Was Here 01/08/07, featuring two tracks mixed and produced by Corky Ballard. John fell out of the band and Mike and Dave recorded an EP named We Are... containing two more tracks. Both records combined have become the album A Dusty Collection. The band also received second place in a Battle of the Bands at Ridgefield High School in their senior year, 2006. The year before, Mike and David played an acoustic set at Battle of the Bands and received third place during the band's first hiatus.

David Rhoderick is combining both his musical background and a desire to offer audiences more in the form of his sound art pieces. He is desperate to help people see the beauty in life and art, how they relate, and to take them to places they have never been.
